California’s Great America Just Added 11 Bonus Days Through November

Published:

If you thought Labor Day weekend was your last chance to visit California’s Great America this year, the park has quietly handed Bay Area travelers a do-over.

The Santa Clara theme park has extended its 2026 season through November 1, adding 11 operating days across seven fall weekends. The first bonus dates are September 12 and 13, giving families and coaster fans only a short pause before the gates reopen.

The extension is especially notable because Great America is celebrating its 50th season while questions continue to swirl around the park’s long-term future. For now, though, the useful takeaway is simple: the 2026 season did not end with summer.

The 11 new Great America dates

Six Flags published the complete list in its official season-extension announcement. The added operating dates are:

  • September 12–13
  • September 19
  • September 26
  • October 3
  • October 10–11
  • October 17–18
  • October 31–November 1

That is 11 additional days in total, spread between mid-September and the first weekend of November. The final two dates land on Halloween weekend, which gives the park a much later finish than its previously announced Labor Day endpoint.

Hours can vary by date, so travelers should use the park’s live calendar and hours page before making the drive. Great America also warns that ride availability can change because attractions require inspections and maintenance.

What visitors can expect this fall

California’s Great America has more than 50 rides and attractions, including the Gold Striker wooden coaster, the Patriot floorless coaster, family rides, and Planet Snoopy. Its South Bay Shores water park is normally included with admission, but the extension announcement does not promise that every seasonal attraction will operate on every bonus date.

That means visitors should not assume a fall ticket includes the same lineup they would find on a peak summer weekend. Check the date-specific calendar and the Six Flags app for current hours, entertainment, and ride availability. The park’s scheduled-closures page currently lists Reef Racer as unavailable and notes that the lineup can change without notice.

Six Flags says 2026 Gold Pass holders can use their passes on the extended dates. Other benefits can depend on the pass type and event, so travelers should review the terms attached to their own ticket or pass rather than relying on an older screenshot or social post.

The timing matters because Great America’s future is unsettled

The extension is good news, but it arrives against a complicated backdrop. The land beneath Great America was sold to logistics real-estate company Prologis in 2022 for $310 million and leased back to the park operator. The current lease is scheduled to expire in June 2028 and includes a possible five-year renewal option.

That arrangement has fueled years of headlines suggesting the park is about to close. The most recent official position is more precise. Six Flags has confirmed that Great America will operate in 2027, but it has not announced a permanent closing date or said whether it will use the lease extension.

In an August 31 report, KTVU quoted Six Flags saying it was working with stakeholders to determine the park’s future. A separate September update from Attractions Magazine also stressed that 2027 is confirmed but a final closing date is not.

In other words, do not treat online claims that the park will definitely close after 2027 as settled fact. The confirmed news is that visitors now have 11 more chances in 2026, another season is planned for 2027, and anything beyond that remains undecided.

How to plan a bonus-day visit

  • Choose a date first: The park is not open continuously through November 1. Only the listed bonus dates were added.
  • Check hours shortly before leaving: Fall operating times may be shorter than summer hours.
  • Confirm your must-do rides: Attraction availability can change, especially during shoulder-season operations.
  • Review your pass: Gold Passes include the extended dates, but benefits and special-event access can vary.
  • Do not rely on closure rumors: Great America is officially operating in 2027, and no permanent closing date has been announced.

For Bay Area travelers, the extension creates an unexpected second chance: more coaster days, more family weekends, and a Halloween finish for the park’s 50th season. Just plan around the exact bonus calendar, because “open through November 1” does not mean open every day until then.
